László Hudec
(1893-1958)
architect's heritage

Our Foundation
Our non-profit organisation was established to preserve the rich collection of the Budapest based family and to promote the work of László Hudec. We have participated in or initiated numerous international programmes and events in the last 15 years. Over these years, we have established fruitful professional relationships, strengthening Sino-Hungarian and Slovakian-Hungarian cultural and educational ties. Our aim is to present László Hudec's world-renowned architecture, his life story full of adventure and twists to a wider audience and to promote the values that his journey and thoughts are representing.

From Banska Bystrica to Shanghai
László Hudec's life was shaped by the history of the 20th century and brought him to the Far Eastern city, where he became a world-renowned architect while he has never forgot his Central-European roots. How did he manage to reach the highest level of international recognition in an environment completely alien to Europeans, abandoned, without wealth or good connections?
Original documents
An outstanding artefact of the collection is the 2 portfolio albums made by the architect. It contains documentation of the buildings he selected: building photographs, floor plans, publications.
Correspondence
The architect, separated far from his homeland, corresponded intensively with his family members, so hundreds of letters and countless small sized photos have survived.
Blue-prints
A photo album illustrating his work between 1919 and 1922 shows blue-prints of the private villas he completed.
Personal objects
The Budapest collection has been enriched with the architect's personal belongings, books and an artist's painting, a portrait of Hudec, thanks to the generous donation of Canadian and American relatives.
